Session S1a (Sunday, 2pm, Thomas 215)

P1: Beyond PBL: Using dynamic PBL to teach sustainability

Tina Overton (University of Hull, UK)

Problem-based learning is becoming increasingly popular in chemistry education. Dynamic problem-based learning attempts to make the problem scenarios more ‘real’ by introducing dynamic elements. The dynamic elements may involve student choice in scenario, introduction of differing data sets or the introduction of external changes to the context. This presentation will introduce a dynamic problem-based learning activity in the area of sustainable chemistry. The implications of the dynamic features with respect to activity design, assessment, student learning and attitudes will be described.
