S29: Establishing a Chemical Education Research Program at a PUI

Organizers: Thomas Pentecost (Grand Valley State University, USA), Nathan Barrows (Grand Valley State University, USA)

Presider: Thomas Pentecost (Grand Valley State University, USA)

This symposium will focus on the challenges encountered by faculty establishing a chemical education research (CER) program at primarily undergraduate institutions. Presentations should illustrate specific strategies CER faculty have used to address challenges such as designing appropriate projects, training students in research methods, maintaining project continuity as student researchers leave, and competing for departmental resources. Abstracts from faculty in departments with graduate programs will be considered if their research is conducted primarily with undergraduate students.
