S74: Home Laboratory Programs and Student Accessibility

Organizer: Lawton Shaw (Athabasca University, Canada)

Presider: Lawton Shaw (Athabasca University, Canada)

Home laboratory programs in chemistry have the potential to improve student access to education by giving students the opportunity to complete laboratory exercises in their home environment. What kinds of chemistry experiments can be safely completed in the home environment? How can technology be used to enhance home labs? What learning objectives can be achieved? How do students perform in the absence of an instructor? This symposium will explore the state of the art in the growing practice of home chemistry labs.
