S79: The Math and Science Partnership Program: 10 years later

Organizers: Martin Brock (Eastern Kentucky University, USA), Jodye Selco (Cal Poly Pomona, USA)

Presider: Martin Brock (Eastern Kentucky University, USA)

MSPs were first funded by the National Science Foundation in 2002 as a response to No Child Left Behind. While the funding has mostly been taken over by states feeding resources from the US Department of Education into regional partnerships, collaboration between university faculty and local education authorities has persisted, has frequently become institutionalized, and has yielded enormous gains in STEM education at K-16 levels. The purpose of this symposium is to generate conversation about the variety of MSP experiences of college faculty and K-12 teachers with a focus on how these experiences have informed or affected the use of inquiry pedagogy, learning progressions, high school/college transition and associated problems of readiness and retention, structure and effectiveness of professional development programs, pre-service science curricula, science achievement of students, and other related domains.
